Activate your Oslo Pass now. The Bygdøy ferry departs from Rådhusbrygge 3 (Pier 3 next to City Hall) — a 5-minute walk from The Thief via Aker Brygge. Get off at Bygdøynes, which drops you right behind the Fram and Kon-Tiki museums. ~10 min crossing with fjord views, Akershus Fortress, and the Oslo skyline behind you.

The original Fram — the strongest wooden ship ever built — is inside the museum, and you board it. Used by Nansen's 1893 Arctic expedition and Amundsen's 1910 South Pole run. Interactive exhibits on polar exploration, the Gjøa (first ship through the Northwest Passage), and a polar simulator. The original Kon-Tiki raft that crossed the Pacific in 1947, plus the Ra II papyrus boat. Small museum, big story. 45 min max — see the rafts, watch the film clip, move on. Right next to Fram, zero transit.

The Gol Stave Church (c. 1200) — one of few medieval stave churches accessible without driving to rural Norway. Moved from Gol, Hallingdal in the 1880s, it's the museum's centerpiece. Dark wood, dragon-head carvings, Viking-era construction technique. Beyond the church, the open-air museum has 160 historic buildings — the old-town street and Sami section are worth a quick loop. 45 min total, focused on the church.

Bus 30 stops right outside the Folkemuseum and runs back toward central Oslo via Bygdøy allé. Get off near Frogner plass or Majorstuen — both within a 10-min walk of Vigeland Park's main entrance. Included with Oslo Pass.

Majorstuen has plenty of options: Smalhans (if open for lunch — Nordic small plates, local favorite) or any café on Bogstadveien. Keep it quick — Vigeland is the afternoon's main event and you have three more stops after it.

Tram 12 from Majorstuen to Nationaltheatret (~10 min), then 5-min walk to the waterfront. The Nobel Peace Center sits in a converted 1872 train station by City Hall — interactive exhibits on Nobel laureates, the history of the prize, and current global peace efforts. Architecturally interesting interior. ~45 min. Right on your route back east toward Munch.

Walk the harborfront east from Nobel/City Hall → past the Opera House → to MUNCH. 13 floors, 26,000+ works, 3 versions of The Scream (they rotate). Open until 21:00 — late afternoon means fewer crowds and you're already in Bjørvika for SALT after. 2 hours.

Walk straight from Munch to SALT — they're neighbors on the waterfront. Wooden structures housing one of the world's largest saunas (Árdna), bar, food stalls, and stage. Bring swimwear for a fjord plunge. Free entry, pay per activity.

Reserve. Distills its own aquavit, gin, vodka. Monday is the right night — many Oslo spots close Sundays. ~$22 cocktails.

Walk east along the Tjuvholmen/Aker Brygge waterfront toward Akershus. The fortress sits on the headland between the harbor and the city — you'll see it the whole way.

Walk the ramparts for the fjord panorama, loop through the grounds past the old garrison buildings and the harbor-side walls. 700 years of history and the best vantage point over the Oslofjord. Skip the castle interior — the grounds and ramparts are the draw. ~30–45 min at your own pace.

SJ train arrives ~17:30 at Stockholms Centralstation (Centralplan 15). At Six is ~10 min north of Centralen — check in first, drop your bag, change shoes if needed. Start at Stortorget (the bloodbath square, 1520) — Gamla Stan's heart. Walk counter-clockwise:

1. Stortorget — Gamla Stan's main square. Site of the 1520 Stockholm Bloodbath — 82 beheaded in one day.
2. Mårten Trotzigs Gränd — Stockholm's narrowest alley (90 cm), 36 steps down. Named after a 16th-century merchant.
3. Riddarholmen — cross the bridge for the postcard view of City Hall across the water. Riddarholmen Church (burial church of Swedish monarchs) is worth a photo stop.
4. Storkyrkan (Stockholm Cathedral) — 13th-c. royal church, ~60 SEK, 15 min. See the wooden statue of Saint George and the Dragon (1489).

6. Köpmangatan → Gamla Stans Torg → Bollhustäppan — hidden courtyard gardens between the buildings.
7. Österlånggatan → Ferkens Gränd → Tyska Kyrkan (German Church) — Baroque interior, free entry.

Kiasma (1998) — Steven Holl's brilliant, contested limestone-and-zinc building, named from the Greek "chiasma" (crossing) for the way its galleries interweave. The museum caused a five-year political fight: PM Mauno Koivisto intervened after a more traditional design won the initial competition, insisting the site demanded something bolder. The all-white interior ramps spiral up through natural light wells. Major Finnish contemporary collection (Karel Appel, Niki de Saint Phalle) plus rotating international shows. The café overlooks the Parliament lawn — a very Helsinki vista.

Little Italy Festival runs Jul 29 – Aug 2 at Civic Square, a 10-minute walk from Kiasma along Mannerheimintie. Live music, Italian food stalls, dance performances — very relaxed outdoor atmosphere. Drop in for a snack, watch a set, or just people-watch. A good way to ease into Helsinki's summer rhythm without a reservation.

Soppakeittiö's salmon soup — a Helsinki institution. Reindeer sandwiches, archipelago bread, smoked vendace. Wander, sample, watch harbor traffic. Closes at 18:00, so lunch is the right time.

The Old Market Hall closes at 18:00, so tonight head to its cooler younger sibling. Hietalahden Kauppahalli — a revitalised 1903 market hall that's open late Thursdays (until 21:00). Natural wine bar Lakka, street-food stalls, Bar Cón for cocktails. A more relaxed, locals-heavy alternative to the tourist-favourite Vanha Kauppahalli. ~€25.

UNESCO site and residential neighborhood — 800 people live on the islands. Self-guided walking tour from Suomenlinna Church to the ferry dock: King's Gate, submarine Vesikko, the dry dock, and star-fort ramparts. Bring a picnic from the Old Market Hall. Layers for Baltic wind.

EMMA (2006) — housed in the WeeGee house, a former printing-works complex designed by brutalist master Aarno Ruusuvuori. Finland's largest museum at 5,000 m². The Saastamoinen Foundation Collection (2,800+ works, ~150 on display) anchors the permanent galleries — major Finnish modernism plus international names. Don't miss the Bryk & Wirkkala Visible Storage: a working archive-cum-exhibition of Tapio Wirkkala and Rut Bryk's industrial art, prototypes, and personal objects. Also home to the former Cartes media-art centre. Museum of the Year 2018. Take the Töölö tram or a 20-min walk through Tapiola.

Sibelius Monument (1967) — Eila Hiltunen's abstract steel wave of 600+ pipes, unveiled to honor Finland's national composer. Critics initially called it "a metal scrap heap"; a second, representational bust of Sibelius was added nearby to appease them. Temppeliaukio (1969) — carved directly into bedrock, copper dome ceiling, exceptional acoustics. Kamppi Chapel (2012) — "Chapel of Silence," curved wood chapel. Oodi Library (2018) — undulating facade, free entry.

A real Helsinki afternoon: start at the Rock Church after EMMA and architecture touring, walk north through Töölö to the Sibelius Monument (free, in the park), then northwest along the water to Café Regatta — a tiny red cottage on the shore serving cinnamon buns since 1983, beloved by locals. Double back along the shoreline to Kaivopuisto, Helsinki's oldest park and its best-known queer cruising ground since the 1960s. Continue to Juttutupa for dinner (Finland's oldest jazz pub, since 1944, live music most nights), or push on to Sea Horse / Hietalahti.

Open-air concert/swim venue by Market Square. Even partial attendance gives you a real Helsinki Friday night. Backup: A21 cocktail bar (speakeasy in an apartment).

Morning crossing from Helsinki. Hotel is a 15-min walk or 5-min taxi from the ferry terminal. Drop bags, grab coffee, start exploring. Tour leader meets 7 PM in hotel reception.

Cardamom buns and filter coffee in the striking Rotermann Quarter — 19th-century brick factories turned design district. The old-meets-new architecture is Tallinn's best adaptive reuse.

Enter through the iconic twin-towered Viru Gate (14th century). Walk up Viru street to Raekoja plats — one of Europe's best-preserved medieval squares. The Gothic Town Hall (1404) is the only surviving one in Northern Europe. Old Thomas has watched from the weather vane since 1530.

Once the tallest building in the world (1549–1625). Climb the 258-step spiral staircase for panoramic red-rooftop and harbor views. Not for the claustrophobic.

The classic postcard view — medieval rooftops to the Baltic Sea. Arrive before noon to beat the cruise crowds. The stone wall is perfect for sitting.

The onion-domed Orthodox cathedral (1900, built to assert imperial dominance). Then duck into the quiet Danish King's Garden — legend says the Danish flag fell from the sky here during the 1219 Battle of Lindanise.

Estonian institution on a 16th-century corner. Elk soup is legendary, roasted local fish always fresh, bread basket comes with smoked fish spread. Lunch walk-ins often possible; dinner definitely books out.

Estonia's oldest continuously operating cinema — a rare surviving example of Stalinist "wedding cake" architecture. Guided tour explores Soviet film culture and the building's history. One of Tallinn's quirkiest cultural experiences.

A library turned event space hosting intimate afternoon classical concerts. Summer season only. A locals' secret — book ahead if you want to catch one.

Former railway factory turned creative cluster — street art, design shops, F-Hoone restaurant. The Van Gogh Experience is running today. Fotografiska has world-class photography exhibitions and a top-floor café with excellent espresso and rooftop views.

Three floors — Soviet memorabilia and antiques upstairs, modern food hall on ground level, seasonal farmers' goods outside. Hunt for vintage Estonian design in the flea market. Closes around 6–7 PM.

Walk back through Kalamaja's pastel-painted 1920s wooden houses — built for railway workers, now Tallinn's most photogenic residential neighborhood. Streets of Valgevase, Kungla, and Nisu are especially charming. This is where locals live.

~8 km covered, ~2.5 hrs active walking. Rest, freshen up, meet the Explore group. Optional welcome dinner afterward or strike out to X-Baar (Baltics' oldest gay bar, since 1998, open till 1 AM).

Morning walking tour of Tallinn — German, Scandinavian, Russian influences, merchants' quarter, town square. Then east to Lahemaa National Park, Estonia's largest. Walk the Beaver Trail along the Altja River Valley — look for beaver dams. Walk ends in the 400-year-old fishing village of Altja. Afternoon: bog walking in traditional shoes (available Jul–Sep departures). Specialist bog shoes strap onto your boots to prevent sinking. Night in a beautifully converted distillery in the national park.

🍽 Dinner at Palmse: you're rural — the converted distillery's own restaurant is the plan (and the point: manor-park setting, Estonian country cooking). If the group detours, Altja Kõrts — a thatched-roof 19th-c. tavern in the fishing village where the walk ended — is the regional classic.

Cross the border into Latvia and drive to Cēsis in Gauja National Park — Latvia's biggest, nicknamed "Latvian Switzerland." The medieval town is 800+ years old with a 13th-century Livonian knight castle. Afternoon forested nature trail to the Gauja River, finishing at Eagle's Cliff. Slightly hilly, some wooden steps (not always well maintained).

🍽 Dinner near Hotel Cēsis: small medieval town, everything within 5 min. H. E. Vanadziņš — wine cellar dining in an 18th-c. vault near the castle. Trimpus craft-beer taproom for Latvian brews after. Kitchens close early (~21:00) — eat before the evening stroll.

Walk forest nature trails past Livonian medieval fortress ruins and the neo-gothic castle, ending at 13th-century Turaida Castle. Cable car ride over the forest. Then drive into Riga — walking tour on arrival: Freedom Monument, Gunpowder Tower, Saint Jacob's Church, and the cathedral. Undulating, forested terrain.

🍽 Dinner near Konventa Sēta: the hotel is inside a medieval convent courtyard in Old Town — Folkklubs Ala Pagrabs (5-min walk, Peldu iela) is the night: sprawling cellar folk club, 100+ Latvian beers, grey peas + pork, live folk music. Quieter: Petergailis by St. Peter's. LGBTQ: Golden Bar, Ģertrūdes iela, ~15 min into the Art Nouveau district.

Kemeri National Park — raised boardwalk above wetlands, distinctive mosses, bog pine trees, small pools. Then lunch in Jūrmala seaside resort (curative mineral waters). Cross into Lithuania and continue ~6 hours to Klaipėda, then ferry to Nida on the Curonian Spit. Flat terrain.

🍽 Dinner in Nida (late arrival): you'll roll in after the 6-hr drive + ferry. Tik Pas Joną — smokehouse by the harbor, whole smoked bream and eel, the Curonian classic (5 min from Jūratė). Backup for a late kitchen: Kuršis on the main street.

The Curonian Spit — a 98km sand dune spit separating the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. Chains of dunes up to 60m high, breaking waves, pine forests, and old Curonian houses. Walk through the varying landscapes of the national park. Mainly flat and sandy with some forested areas. The trip's most dramatic landscape day.

🍽 Dinner in Nida (full evening): Nidos Seklyčia — the village's best-regarded dining room, lagoon-side terrace, book at breakfast. Then the real nightlife: sunset over the Curonian Lagoon from the promenade, ice cream in hand. This is the trip's quietest, best evening.

Drive to Trakai, former seat of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The 15th-century castle sits on its own island in Lake Galvė — scenic walk around the town and castle. Then onward to Vilnius — walking tour of the UNESCO Old Town: ancient university, cathedral, St. Anne's Church. Mostly flat with some forested trails.

🍽 Dinner near Amberton (Cathedral Square): Lokys — game (beaver stew, boar) in a 1500s merchant cellar, 7-min walk up Pilies g., reserve. Cheap + fast: Etno Dvaras on Pilies for cepelinai, 3 min. Beer: Šnekutis for Lithuanian farmhouse brews. LGBTQ: Soho Club (Švitrigailos g. 7, ~20 min walk/short taxi) — it's Friday, their big night, but weigh it against your 06:27 train.

Breakfast at the Amberton probably won't be served before 07:00 — grab something at Vilnius station or eat on the train. Transfer in Mockava en route. Arrive Warszawa Centralna 13:03 with ~7 hours before your 19:52 sleeper to Prague.

Escalators down to mezzanine, lockers at the north end (coin/card, 25–30 PLN). BagStorage.pl office in the same passage for larger bags. Then Metro M1 to Ratusz Arsenał — start at the top of the Royal Route and walk back down toward the station.

Semicircular fortification at the north entrance to the Old Town walls. The whole Stare Miasto was leveled in 1944 and rebuilt brick-by-brick from Canaletto's paintings — UNESCO listed the reconstruction itself. Free to walk through.

Heart of the rebuilt Old Town — pastel merchant houses, mermaid statue (Warsaw's symbol), accordion players. Take 10 minutes to circle and photograph. Museum of Warsaw is on the north side if you want interior context, but the square itself is the show.

Royal Castle exterior (interior skippable on a layover). Sigismund's Column (1644) — Warsaw's oldest secular monument, dedicated to the king who moved the capital here from Kraków. Viewpoint over the Vistula, then head down the slope to the water.

Five minutes from Castle Square down to the water — modern concrete banks lined with seasonal open-air bars (BarKa boat-bar, Cud nad Wisłą). This is lunch: order a Polish vodka lemonade, grab a deck chair, watch the Vistula. Low-commitment — leave the moment you're done, then ~10 min back up the slope to Krakowskie Przedmieście to continue south. Carry a little cash.

Back up the slope and straight onto the Royal Route. Stately neoclassical palace, current home of the Polish president — outside only on this trip; the architecture and the walk past the Prime Minister's Chancellery are the point. Chopin's first concerts happened in the building across the street.

Baroque church, free entry. Chopin's heart is interred in a pillar — plaque on the left nave. His body is in Père Lachaise, but his heart was smuggled home in a jar of cognac by his sister. Interior closes ~16:00, so don't dawdle after lunch.

Quick photo stop as the Royal Route continues south — café-lined and busier here, near the junction with Świętokrzyska. Five-minute pause, then continue down Nowy Świat toward the station (or turn off for pierogi).

Mandu (Bracka 25) — pierogi 20 ways (ruskie, wild boar with cranberry), right on the walk west from Nowy Świat. Or Bar Bambino (bar mleczny — Soviet-era subsidized cafeteria, dirt cheap, real żurek and kotlet schabowy). Done by 18:45, no rush to the platform.

LGBTQ-friendly alternative, see how you feel: Plan B (Plac Zbawiciela, ~5 min off the walk south) — iconic queer-friendly bar, arty, terrace, relaxed. Warsaw's central scene is more progressive than Poland's national reputation. Carry a little cash.

45-min buffer. Polish sleeper conductors lock cabins promptly. Missing this is the expensive mistake.

Lockers level -1 under the main hall (card/coin). Then EMA for a quick cortado or Café Slavia for the full Bohemian breakfast with the Castle view. 10 min to Old Town Square either way.

Astronomical Clock (apostles parade on the hour), Church of Our Lady before Týn, then Charles Bridge while it's still walkable. By 10:30 the bridge is a crush.

LGBTQ note: FRIENDS Prague (Bartolomějská 11) is the city's most central gay-friendly bar — you walk right past it. Opens 21:00 though, so it doesn't fit tonight. Prague's real scene (Vinohrady) rewards an overnight. File both under next time.

U Hrocha (tiny, no-frills locals' pub) or Lokál U Bílé kuželky (reliable modern-traditional, fresh tank Pilsner Urquell, excellent svíčková/goulash). U Fleků (since 1499) is back on the Old Town side — only if you skip Letná.

The ever-repainted Lennon Wall (free, 5 min, near the love-lock bridge) and St. Nicholas — over-the-top high-Baroque interior, arguably Prague's finest (~100 CZK, 30 min). Then back across Charles Bridge toward Letná.

Bluff above the river — long communal tables, ~50 CZK ($2) pivo, best skyline over Old Town and the bridges. Giant metronome on the old Stalin-statue plinth. Sunday afternoon fills with locals. ~15-min walk back to hl.n.

2014 rebuild by Benthem Crouwel + MVSA + West 8 — one of Europe's most distinctive stations. Wood-lined concourse, gleaming canopy projecting toward the city. Walk out through the Stationsplein exit and look back. The right opening note for Rotterdam — a city rebuilt entirely after 14 May 1940, when the Luftwaffe bombing flattened the medieval core in 15 minutes. Every building you'll see is a post-war statement.

Marriott is right on Weena, a 5-minute walk out the front of Centraal. M3 south-west, then the A303 skirts directly past Stonehenge — you'll see it from the road tomorrow morning on the way in. Today, keep driving. The 800-year-old cathedral is a 2-min walk from your hotel. Even if you don't do the paid interior tonight (save that for tomorrow morning), the close at dusk is one of the great English cathedral experiences — Constable painted it from just this angle. Dinner options in town are pub-focused; ask the Chapter House for a walk-in recommendation.

The spire — 123m, tallest in Britain — catches first light while you're still in shadow. The close is Britain's largest cathedral close (80 acres) and at this hour it's just you, birdsong, and the odd verger. Walk the full west front (73 statues), then cut diagonally across to the choristers' lawn.

Arundells was Edward Heath's home for his last 20 years (ashes inside the cathedral); the garden runs down to the Avon. Across the close: the King's House museum — its Stonehenge gallery is the perfect primer for your 10:30 slot — and Mompesson House (1701, the Sense and Sensibility film location). Admire from the outside; both open 10:00, after you've left town.

Out the south gate, over Churchfields, and onto the dead-straight causeway across Harnham Water Meadows — medieval engineered flood meadows — with the cathedral rising out of the mist exactly as Constable painted it ('Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows'). Classic framing is two-thirds of the way across. Turnaround is the 12th-c. Old Mill straddling the Nadder, willows trailing in the mill race.

St Nicholas Hospital was founded 1215 — same year as Magna Carta — as a pilgrims' hostel for the new cathedral; still housing residents 800 years on. Re-enter the close through High Street Gate (1327–42), portcullis groove visible in the arch — the boundary between the bishop's world and the merchants'.

Same building, different cathedral — the west front now faces you in full morning gold. The Chapter House is one minute away: breakfast, then the 8:00 interior opening below. Breakfast at the Chapter House, then walk over. The 1215 Magna Carta — one of only four originals — is in the Chapter House room off the cloisters. Position is unmatched: you're above the harbor with a straight sight line down to the fishing boats. Drop bags, then walk the harbor before dinner — Port Isaac's core is a 15-min figure-eight, and this hour is the best light.

You flagged this as still checking. If the reservation lands, it's the meal of the trip's UK leg — Outlaw's smaller, more casual seafood counter (the flagship closed; this is what remains). Small plates, boat-to-plate turnaround, ~£70–90 pp. If it doesn't come through: The Mote (harborside, fish pie legendary) or hotel restaurant at the Old School are both solid backups. Book whichever one you land on before arrival — Port Isaac fills.

Straight off the castle steps and into the village for a proper Cornish cream tea. The Cornish Bakery (Fore Street) does a solid traditional version with Roddas clotted cream. King Arthur's Cafe leans into the Arthurian theme — full tourist mode, but the scones are genuine. Either way: jam first, then cream — never the Devonshire way.

A sacred woodland gorge with a waterfall that tumbles through a stone basin ("kieve") into a pool. Deeply atmospheric — mossy walls, ancient carved stones, Celtic Christianity layered over older worship. Arthurian legend places knights being blessed here before the Grail quest. It's genuinely quiet, genuinely green, unlike anywhere else on this coast. The woodland walk IS the experience — don't rush it. Judgment call on Karen & Linda: the path is uneven in places but not steep; if they're tired from Tintagel steps, drive them back to the hotel and go solo.

If Fish Kitchen was Wednesday, tonight go to The Mote or the hotel restaurant. If Fish Kitchen was Thursday, take last night's backup earlier. The Slipway is another harbor option — 17th-century rope loft, classic Cornish. All within 5 min of each other. Early bed — Wales tomorrow is a long drive.

Confirm early breakfast with The Castle Hotel the night before. Load the car, gas up, on the road. This is the trip's longest single leg — coffee at a services stop is fair game. Aim to arrive Stratford by ~12:15 for the Anne Hathaway drive-past.
